Many believe that Carroll is up there with being one of the fittest drivers in Australian Motorsport. Before joining the world of Motor Racing as a competitor in 2001, Carroll spent many years competing in Triathlons and long distance events with a fair amount of success which includes: A hat trick of top three finishes in the New York City Triathlon from 1999 through to 2001, along with a sub 3-hour time in the 2001 New York City Marathon.
2001 saw Carroll step in Motor racing, after stints with Motor Bike racing in his earlier years, contesting the MoPro Cup series where he placed ninth driving a Daewoo. The following year Carroll switched to the MGF Trophy class and, again, placed 9th at the completion of the series. In 2003 Carroll stepped back in the Daewoo series and he recorded his strongest result of fourth overall in the championship.
The Formula Ford challenge for Carroll came about the following year where he teamed with Derryn Harrison driving a RF 96 Van Diemen and contested the NSW state championship under the Team Vodafone banner after the mobile phone giants jumped on board to support the newcomers.
After a steady debut year, Carroll is hoping to move closer to the pointy end of the field in 2005 and he will campaign a Spectrum 06B.
