Teething Problems Hamper Promising Performance from Rudolph:
By: Stubbies Workwear Racing
The fifth and penultimate round of the NSW Formula Ford series saw Dane Rudolph and the Stubbies Workwear Racing (SWR) team show encouraging signs that were hampered by touches of bad luck at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park Raceway last weekend (August 27 & 28).
A carburetor issue aboard the # 72 Spectrum 09B cut short the track time during Friday practice and on Saturday morning for official qualifying Rudolph managed a best lap of 1:04.5433, which put him 12th on the grid for the opening race later that afternoon.(continue from last paragraph)However, the opening race was brought to a premature close after an opening lap incident that saw race officials declare it as a non-event due to the insufficient number of laps completed.
the second race on Sunday morning, over a 10-lap duration, saw Rudolph drive strongly and finish a respectable seventh placing after starting from the sixth row on the grid. In the third and final race (12-Laps) of the weekend Rudolph was well placed in sixth, only to be hampered by a sticking throttle on the fifth lap, when the safety car was brought out for the stranded car of Andrew Taite in turn two.
Rudolph was unfortunate to spin as he was about to enter turn 7 (fish hook) during the safety car period, which subsequently cost him a number of positions. At the restart Rudolph was back in position 17. Despite his best efforts, Rudolph was unable to finish any higher than 15th, which put a dampener on an otherwise strong showing.
“All in all the weekend was very strong in terms of the car’s handling and the engine package, it’s was just disappointing to have little teething problems hamper what could have been a much stronger result,” admitted the 19-year-old. “We’re still not sure what the problem is that is causing the throttle to stick, but the SWR team will take the car back to the workshop and resolve the issue before our next round.”
After this weekend Rudolph has moved up one position in the NSW Formula Ford Series point standings to ninth with a total of 155 points.
The next outing for Rudolph and SWR will beat the sixth and final round of the NSW Formula Ford series at
