Morley Set to Make Cameo Formula Ford Appearance:

By: Stubbies Workwear Racing

In a move that will hopefully be the launching pad for a fulltime attack on the 2006 National Formula Ford Championship, Ben Morley will contest this weekend’s (August 12 – 14) sixth round of the National series at Oran Park Raceway with Stubbies Workwear Racing (SWR).

During the past two years the Newcastle based Morley has stepped out of the driver’s seat and acted as team manager for both Team Vodafone and Stubbies Workwear Racing. Now the racing bug has again bitten Morley and he wants to compete in the National Formula Ford series next year, with the aspirations of moving into V8 Supercars.

“Yeah, I want to get back into racing and have a serious crack at realising my childhood dream of racing V8 Supercars,” stated Morley. “I believe that the Formula Ford National series is considered to be a good stepping stone to breaking into V8 Supercars and currently negotiations are under way in terms of a putting together a competitive package for next year.”

Throughout the mid to late 1990’s Morley developed into one of the up and coming stars in Formula Ford during that period and finished a close second in the 1998 NSW series behind the late Stewart McColl. Morley is regarded by many, which includes Mike Borland from Borland Racing Developments in Melbourne, as one of the best young drivers to never break into a higher level of motor racing.

The plan this weekend for Morley, who is to campaign the # 27 Stubbies Workwear Racing supported Spectrum 09B that has been driven this year by Dane Rudolph in the NSW series, is to hit the ground running in a car that he has never previously driven.

“I am aiming to be somewhere within the top 10 on the weekend but I know that isn’t going to be an easy task,” conceded Morley. “Oran Park is a very enjoyable track and I hope that we can be right on the pace from the word go with a bit of luck.”

One area that the SWR team will have to get a handle on is setting up the car to suit the driving style of Morley, but they are confident that it shouldn’t be too great of a challenge.

“Dane and I are two completely different drivers and Friday’s session will be used to find a suitable setup for my liking,” said a confident Morley. “Although I’ve never driven the car before, I know it pretty well, and that is going to give me an advantage in terms of coming to grips with it.”

Joining the SWR team for the weekend will be team boss Derryn Harrison and he will make his first appearance in Stubbies Workwear team colours aboard the # 60 Spectrum 06B.

“My main aim is to ensure a far more consistent showing than my last two rounds in the state series,” Harrison said. “Even so in the company of such fantastic young drivers I think I can safely suggest that we will have Stubbies represented at both ends of the field.”
